Privacy

What we collect

• Your account: username, email address, password (stored hashed — we cannot read it).
• Your profile: display name, home port, a short bio, a photo if you upload one, and your answers to the compatibility questions (experience, smoking, drinking, kids, catch preference).
• Trips: what you post or book, and the messages you send with a seat request.
• Captain details: if you name a captain when posting a trip, we store their name, email and phone so we can ask them to confirm it and pay them.
• Technical: your IP address and browser when you sign up or join the launch list, for spam and abuse prevention.

We do not collect your home address, and we never see or store your card number — see below.

Who else sees it

• Other members, deliberately: your profile and compatibility answers are shown to an organiser deciding whether to approve your seat request. That is the whole point of them. Your email address is never shown to another member.
• Stripe handles all payments. Your card details go straight to them and never touch our servers. Captains’ bank details go to Stripe too; we never see them.
• SendGrid sends our email, so they process your email address and the contents of the messages we send you.
• Our host, ServerPoint, stores the database the site runs on.
• Nobody else. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and there are no tracking or advertising pixels on this site.

Private ratings

After a trip you can say whether you’d fish with someone again, and add a private note. The note is only ever read by FishSplit — the person it is about never sees it. What others see is a count, like “8 of 9 would fish with them again”.

Cookies

One session cookie so you stay logged in, and a security token cookie that stops other sites submitting forms as you. No analytics, no advertising, no third-party cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Your choices

• Edit or clear most of your profile any time from your profile page.
• Leave the launch list with the unsubscribe link in any email.
• Ask us to delete your account and we will, subject to keeping the records of completed bookings we need for tax and dispute purposes.
• Ask for a copy of what we hold about you and we will send it.

Children

FishSplit accounts are for people 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information about children. Under-18s can come along on a trip that allows it, as the guest of a responsible adult, without an account.
